Around The Corner Picnic

So last Sunday Mother Nature co-operated and we did not get rained out for a second year in a row for our annual picnic at Hovander Park in Ferndale. We had a fairly decent sized group attend. And Denise made us all happy with double frosting on the Hershey's Chocolate Cake....

The gardens around the house are something I look forward to seeing, and this year did not disappoint.
I don't know the names of everything I took a picture of, I just snapped away...

I thought the color of these was pretty cheerful.

I loved these two next to each other. I think it's Lavender next to those intense pink roses. The roses look like the one I have in the back yard, except for mine is white, and HUGE.

I love this Arbor that they built in front of the house. I think it has Grapevine growing on it, I'm not sure. I would like an English style garden that had one just like it with Wisteria growing on it.

This is the family they put together in the children's Storybook garden. I still don't know exactly why they call it that, but it's still a nice addition to the park.

Usually the Lace Cap Hydrangea is in full bloom by this time of year. When it is, it is so beautiful.

My Sweet Pea's are finally up to the full height of the spiral trellis I planted them on. And I'm finally getting more than just one bloom at a time too.

I hope that since it took so long to finally get nice, that we at least have nice weather all the way through September to make up for it!

Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon Levitt

This is such a fun video that I ran across on You Tube this week. I like their chemistry.
When the video is done, the other one I recommend will be in the bottom left hand corner of the next grouping of "related" videos. It is the two of them singing "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?"
I didn't know that she sang until her duet of "Baby It's Cold Outside" with Will Ferrel in "Elf". I think she has a good voice, but is still finding her groove so to speak.

Lion Cubs In South Africa

There was a small article on Huffington Post this week that featured one of the video's from Douglas Hamilton on his last day on the job at a refuge in South Africa. He is Scottish, and I think he was a volunteer. He is saying goodbye to the lion cubs that he has been helping to take care of. This video is on You Tube, but there is not a lot of information about where it was filmed. Still I really enjoy it, the cubs are so sweet, it would be so hard for me to say goodbye that's for sure♥

Doe & Fawn Stop by for a Visit

Thursday evening we were visited by a doe and her fawn, and Munchkin and the fawn were quite curious about each other. I took two videos, this is the second one. They were pretty cute together.
I uploaded the video to my Picasa album this time to see how it worked. If you click on the hyperlink it will take you to the album, and all you have to do is click on the image once to start it playing. Enjoy!

Flowers

Front Porch Hanging Baskets

Ivy Geranium from Denise
It seemed like it was going to take forever for these to start blooming, until it finally warmed up this last week and a half, and then they just took off.

I bought the cedar planter last summer from the farmer's co-op and it was jam packed with a light coral ivy geranium, it was just huge!

I got the coral Ivy Geranium from Denise two summers ago, and I have wintered it inside in the kitchen. I love the color of these, it's so cheerful.

I've had good luck wintering Geraniums in my kitchen; they get plenty of light and it's a little on the cooler side in that part of the house.

Munchkin and his big friend

After I got back from getting groceries this afternoon I let the cat's out, and it didn't take long for Munchkin to head over to Dave's next door. I happened to look out the kitchen window and figured out why; he had heard the buck over in the backyard stirring around.

Munchkin

The buck was just coming around the row of evergreens and Munchkin stopped and lowered himself to the ground. The buck was cautiously trying to sniff him, and Munchkin was a little nervous too. They ended up settling down near each other for a short time.

Munchkin

I think the buck is probably 2-3 years old, and it was the first time I had seen him this summer. He hung around for a couple of hours at least. The weather turned cooler and overcast, and he just was relaxing in the peace and quiet.

Munchkin and his little friend

I am so glad I had a chance to grab my camera and catch this before they went back to their normal chasing game, but it still amazes me.

There are now usually three squirrels that play in the yard on a regular basis.

Munchkin is only about a foot away from the squirrel. He really seems to like to chase them like they are playmates more than a matter of hunting them.
