The Color of Winter

I have exactly two blooms on my red Christmas Cactus - love that little extra this time of year. My pink Geranium is also blooming; I can't remember if it's the first or second year that I've wintered this particular plant inside.

Happy Thanksgiving 2015

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

It's sunny and cold here in Bellingham. I am thankful for the sun, and the roof over my head and that I didn't lose my electricity with all the wind storms we've had this month!

I'm enjoying the day relaxing with the cats and my dinner is in the crock pot.....but I already had a slice of pie!

3rd Times' A Charm

This Christmas Cactus amazes me - one of the five or so buds on it right now opened up fully today. This is the third time it's bloomed since November 2014. Man I love this plant!

Christmas in February?

A lone bloom for February on my Christmas Cactus to brighten an otherwise gloomy weekend, at least weather-wise. We are on the northern end of the Pineapple Express that has been hitting the San Francisco-Bay area pretty hard since Thursday. We had really strong winds but warm temperatures, and then the heavy rain started yesterday. A good day to stay in to say the least.

Merry Christmas 2014

Merry Christmas 2014

The lone bloom on my big Christmas Cactus started to open yesterday, but I'm not complaining, usually it's not blooming at Christmas at all. This has been a very somber month for me, so I will take any small joys I can get. I am thankful for my health and the roof over my head, and my feline family that always accepts my love, no questions asked.
And special thanks to Steve & Naomi for inviting me over for a small Christmas Eve dinner last night on Humboldt Street before they headed out to Lummi Island for church.

I've been saving up all these recent funnies for today. Earl in the Pickles comic could have been written about me and my deep abiding love for eggnog ☺

Merry Christmas

I Can't Believe It's Almost Thanksgiving

My Christmas Cactus are being true to form and blooming in November - although quite often they are done by Thanksgiving. The first bloom opened up Friday. We also are getting some sunshine today which I didn't expect,  so have been enjoying it.

I completed the first square for the Bear Paw quilt patterned pillow covers I am making to go on my bed. The pillows are 20" square,  so will have 4 squares and borders. My quilt is royal blue and beige but the pillow covers are going to be royal blue and warm yellow. I think it's going to be a good combination.

I am only working Mon and Tues this week, so am hoping to make a lot of progress on them with my time off. I need to start getting ready for Christmas too. ...

Not Quite Spring Color

My Christmas Cactus are blooming again, at least partially..... My larger plant that bears the light pink blooms has one lonely bloom as of yesterday. And the smaller one here with the red blooms just opened up two days ago. It's so funny to me that they both bloom twice a year, and never at Christmas anymore ☺

This n' That

Ivy Geranium

Christmas Cactus
It's been a while (obviously) since my last post. Saturday the 9th was a gorgeous day, and I spent the afternoon with Steve & Naomi at a birthday potluck for our mutual friend Don.
As usual Don was grilling some beautiful and tasty salmon from his catch in Alaska. There was a good crowd and the weather couldn't have been better for early March around here.

This past Saturday I had lunch with Naomi and her grandson Chase, and returned their house-key following a week of cat sitting for her and Steve while they went to sunny Arizona for her dad's 80th birthday. It was wet here, but turned out beautiful on Sunday morning. And as you can see, I have some flowers blooming. The ivy geranium has wintered indoors for two years in a row.
Jimi

Tucker

Jimi and Tucker live downtown, and are sweet as can be. And as Naomi points out - they love me ♥
They have always been good boys when I cat sit, and love treat time, and Tucker told me in no uncertain terms when he was ready to get his drink out of the bathtub faucet....

Jimi loves to rub his head up against you, and has a great purr and very soft fur. My little buddies - I love them right back ☺

This n' That

Get Fuzzy - March 2 2013
March is coming in like a lion here, so I'm hoping it will go out like a lamb and we will transition in to a early spring. Very wet this afternoon, and as usual I am falling behind in what I need to get done....

Sherman's Lagoon - February 27 2013
I have noticed that the trees and shrubs are starting to get leaf buds. My Rose in the back yard is really leafing out as of this week and the Day Lilies are really starting to get tall after it has warmed up after the last freeze. And my Hydrangea is starting to leaf out as well.

Christmas Cactus - Sunday, March 3rd
I'm going to start my Sweet Peas inside very soon, and have already shifted one of my Geraniums that I winter indoors to the front porch to get acclimated.

And my red Christmas Cactus is blooming and budding right now and the larger pink one has just started to bud. The Christmas Cactus I got started for my supervisor Kelly at work was blooming before mine. She is so excited that she hasn't killed it, I'm happy for her that it is blooming twice like mine♥

Flowers

Kelly's Christmas Cactus

My Lilac
I had accidently broken two sections of my large Christmas Cactus this winter and decided to try and root them in water. I've only ever done that with ivies so I had no idea whether it would work.
It did, and I finally potted it to eventually give to Kelly at work, but I want to make sure it is healthy and established before I give it to her. It's been cool seeing the new growth, I potted it about a month ago, and I think it's doing really well. The new growth is kind of a burgundy-ish color, and I counted 7 new sections.

And I have been really enjoying my Lilac this spring; I had clipped several off to bring inside to enjoy at home and at work. I love the fragrance and think they are beautiful too. I wish it would grow taller faster, but am still pleased that it blooms every year and is healthy.
