Crazy Cat Lady

I am definitely guilty of everything but numbers 4 & 8. I even downloaded a MP3 of a cat purring to use as background for meditating - a gal at work said that officially made me a crazy cat lady - as if I wasn't already. But that MP3 was the best dollar I ever spent ☺

Happy New Year

Like the rest of the country we have frigid temperatures to ring in the new year. It was 22 degrees when I went to work this morning,  and 36 right now and will drop into the 20s again after the sun sets.

I'm going downtown to Steve & Naomi's for a party she is putting on for Steve's 60th birthday today. We were joking about it on Christmas Eve that she is having it early so they can get back out to Lummi Island and settle in before it gets too late!  On that note,  I found this meme and thought it summed my life up pretty well. Happy New Year everyone

The lone bloom on my big Christmas Cactus started to open yesterday, but I'm not complaining, usually it's not blooming at Christmas at all. This has been a very somber month for me, so I will take any small joys I can get. I am thankful for my health and the roof over my head, and my feline family that always accepts my love, no questions asked.

And special thanks to Steve & Naomi for inviting me over for a small Christmas Eve dinner last night on Humboldt Street before they headed out to Lummi Island for church. 

I've been saving up all these recent funnies for today. Earl in the Pickles comic could have been written about me and my deep abiding love for eggnog ☺

Sit Stay Ride: Official Trailer

This was on I Can Has a Hotdog today. It's the trailer for a movie about 18 or so motorcyclists and their canine companions that ride in their sidecars. The filmmakers are a husband & wife team; Eric and Geneva Ristau. The story said that the movie was funded by a Kickstarter campaign and is available on DVD and Vimeo on Demand with a portion of the proceeds going to the Humane Society.

 We are having mild weather this last week and today is around 70 degrees and sunny. I was out working on the porch stripping the old finish off the drawing board portion of the drafting table and was wearing shorts! I can't recall it ever being this nice and warm enough for me to be in shorts in October before.

My niece Jennifer and sister in law Cindy came though town yesterday with a few other family members headed to Vancouver B.C. for the weekend. It was nice to visit even thought it was a short while. I haven't seen them in almost two years I think. Jennifer just turned 15 this summer and she is now about 5' 8", and her cousin Justin who is a year younger than her is at least 5' 9". Man they have grown so much since I saw them last!

I found out through the health assessment at work that I am an inch shorter than I thought I was. I thought my dad had measured me when I was around 20 years old, and that I was 5' 10". Apparently that wasn't accurate, and I am 5' 9". It was very demoralizing! It certainly didn't positively impact my B.M.I. index that's for sure.

I did remain in the same category as far as my overall health though in terms of the blood test results, so that's good. And my doctor's office called me and said that my annual blood draw from there the week before showed me in the normal ranges for cholesterol so I was pleased with that.

I updated the blog layout a little bit again by switching out the picture to Munchkin & Boo. I think I am going to switch out the picture more often, just for a little variety.

Princess Bride Day is September 25th

At work this year instead of giving out the DVD of the movie again, I printed out these meme's and am putting up one a day at my desk to honor the occasion. In the theme of the movie, some are just the play on words.

Of course it hasn't caught on with anyone, because I'm a dork, but everyone does love the movie, so It's still fun to share that common love of all things "Inconceivable!!"

Pickles - September 20 2014

We are having beautiful weather here right before the start of fall, today was sunny and high 70's and I think tomorrow is supposed to be about the same.

I am starting to get myself started on indoor projects for the fall/winter. I changed up the blog a little bit - it was time for a visual update.

What A Day

I took today off work for a doctor's appointment, and glad that I took the whole day, because I ended up fainting when they were drawing blood, and was there for almost another hour getting back to normal so I could leave.

When I got home I changed back in to my P.J.'s, climbed into bed, and thankfully fell to sleep pretty quickly and slept for a hour and half. But my stomach has been upset almost the whole rest of the day. It's weird I feel sick and hungry at the same time, I hope that feeling is gone by tomorrow morning.


After developing hyperthyroidism about 15 years ago, I had to go through about 2 years of treatment and get my blood drawn every single month and I never fainted. I don't really like needles, but I learned to deal with it. Today the gal was having a hard time getting the vein, and the needle was hurting my arm and then she had to pull it out and start over again, and I started to feel anxious I guess, and immediately felt nauseous. I said out loud that I think that I needed some water, and then passed out.

It's so weird to technically only be out of it for less than a minute, but still manage to have a dream that I suddenly come out of, and they are saying my name. It's extremely embarrassing to come to and have several people fussing over you. What a day.

Hope Everyone is Having a Good Labor Day Weekend

Our weather has turned cooler for the weekend, but it hasn't rained...yet. I hope the weather is decent for next weekend for the Greek Fest.

Nothing to report really; I'm going to take the long weekend at a relaxed pace and what gets done, gets done, and what doesn't, I'm not going to fret about.

I'm working on a project for work and have made the batter for a batch of mint chocolate chip ice cream so far today. I want to make one more batch of salted caramel ice cream and see if I can hit the right balance of ingredients. That will be a treat to take to work.

I finished my sewing project last Sunday evening, a linen blend short sleeve dress; and the tempeature was warm enough for me to wear it to work on Tuesday. I was happy with how it turned out. I was working on the needlepoint a little after that. I think my next sewing project will be quilted pillow covers to go with the Bear - Paw patterned quilt I use in the winter. I don't think that I am going to get to a refinishing project this year after all, which bums me out, because that's two summers in a row.

Yesterday was World Cat Day, and this was on LOL Cats as part of the celebration. It is a kick, with the music and the editing, it feels like a nature show watching a tiger in the wild hunting it's prey.

We have beautiful weather still and I was going to start stripping the drafting table top that Susan shipped me this winter, but ended up cutting out a bunch of dead branches out of the snowball bush. I am absolutely beat! I cut out 25 to 30% off it, and my entire body aches. True to form I just went at it whole hog and spent half the day working on it.

So it can't all be cat meme's right? I actually do like dogs, I used to take care of my brother Mark's dog Edna for the first three years I lived in this house back in the late 80's. And we had a dog the whole time I was growing up. I will have to post some pictures in another post...

Real Life Bambi

So I think I may have a real life Bambi situation with the deer. For the second time in the last two weeks there has been a lone spotted fawn in my yard. I came home from work today and there it was eating and there was no doe in sight. It makes me sad to think that it's mother may have been killed. I'm such a momma bear with all the critters in my life; I am protective even with the wild things. I hope this little one continues to safely navigate the neighborhood.
